Last week I wrote this crazy long post about getting healthy. I said I would check in next Thursday to see how I am doing. And here it is next week already! First of all, I want to thank everyone for all their kind comments and emails that you sent to me! It feels really nice to have such great support! Some of you said that you wanted to get healthy with me! I hope you do – please share what you are doing with me. I would love that!
As for me… well, here is a little update.
Another thing I have said no to is my beloved coffee creamer. I love flavored creamer. But sometimes (most times) I have more creamer than coffee. I decided I was probably drinking way too many calories with this stuff.
I have been drinking water! My goal right now is to drink 3 of these 20 oz cups a day. I have done fairly well. I am bad at drinking water – and I know I need to. It does make me feel better when I do. I just have to carry the cup around everywhere I go and keep reminding myself to drink!
I realized last week when I said I wanted to lose 10 to 15 pounds, that it might not seem so significant to some people. Or when I mentioned my BMI is already in the healthy range. I don’t want to come across as that skinny person who always says they are fat and wants to lose weight. As I mentioned before – I know when I start to reach a point on the scale that I feel uncomfortable and some of that has to do with my body type. Another person could be my height/weight and look and feel great, but they might be a different body type than myself.
So last week I was weighing in at 151.4 lbs and today, 147.8 lbs. Which is down 3.6 lbs! But hold on – I think I can explain some of that. I tend to gain weight during certain times of the month (good old Aunt Flo) and then it quickly goes away. Hello water retention! I feel that after having Zooey, I retain water really bad. Which goes back to the reason I am really trying my best to drink more water which helps flush away that water retention. Moving helps too! I will take the 3.6 lbs, don’t get me wrong. I just know that I won’t see those results every week.
I have been eating! I been trying to eat fairly healthy for breakfast and lunch and then eat what my family is eating for dinner (which may have included tater tots at least one night). I’ve been eating greek yogurt, fruit, whole wheat toast with peanut butter or sunbutter, baby carrots, granola, turkey sandwiches, oatmeal, pistachios, raisins, steamed broccoli, chicken breasts…
But I have also indulged a few times. Sometimes I get a really bad craving for chocolate! I keep a bag of Hershey Kisses just for such cravings. I have let myself have one or two here or there. I also indulged on ice cream one night and there might have been an iced coffee with all the good stuff (whipped cream and caramel). But I also said no to treats several times too! I think that is all about balance.
At the gym – I have been doing 30 minutes of cardio. I did that evil Stepmill 3 times last week, the treadmill (fast past walking), and the elliptical. At some point I will probably get back to the weight machines, but for now I am just trying to get my body use to moving again. And there have been days I didn’t want to go, but I just give myself a little pep talk and just went anyway. After I am done, I always feel so much better and I am so glad that I went! And really 30 minutes for cardio is not very long. I have been listening to “Today’s Comedy” channel on Pandora and it really makes the 30 minutes go by fast. And I am pretty sure that I am smiling the entire time I am working out. I probably look like a nut job to others at the gym. “Why is that lady smiling and laughing while she is working out!” HA! I will warn you that the comedy channel on Pandora is stand-up comics. They can get a little vulgar and aren’t shy to throw around the f-bomb, so if you are sensitive to that type of thing, it might not be for you. I think it is hilarious.
So where does that leave me now? I am going to keep going to the gym 3 to 5 times a week. I am going to keep up drinking water. I am going to look for healthy choices in terms of food. I am probably going to eat a Hershey Kiss or two
